Morning Helsinki : Old Market Hall

Opened since 1889, Helsinki’s Old Market Hall (Wanha Kauppahalli) was designed by the architect Gustaf Nyström.

I used the wrong setting for shooting inside this Old Market Hall  so it is not obvious what are actually inside. You may look at the other web links below for further impressions. My new Finnish friend, Satu recommended me to try Karelian pastry , a Finnish traditional dish at Wanha Kauppahalli. I always love fresh market and strolling inside this Old Market Hall was a real joy!

It’s excellent to see these old buildings used more or less for their original purpose – not turned into museum pieces. Here it would probably have been gutted and turned into a casino or hotel, or bulldozed to make way for a modern monstrosity.
